What we have up above, ladies and gentlemen, is the birth of cable TV’s next great villain. This past Sunday, while most of America was watch the San Francisco 49ers beat the brakes off of the Detroit Lions, viewers of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire were introduced to Nucky Thompson’s main antagonist of the season – Gyp Rosetti. Armed with a sharp tongue and a proclivity for brutality, Mr. Rosetti is certain to make things difficult for Nucky and his crew of bootleggers and crooked politicians. Although he’ll more than likely end up a bullett riddled corpse by season’s end, his rise should be well worth the season long watch.
Moving on to tonight’s game – I’m taking the Panthers over the Giants. Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart will sit out tonight’s matchup with a banged up toe while the Giants will be without both running back Ahmad Bradshaw and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. Look for Cam Newton to out-duel Eli tonight in Carolina
Anyone who watched this past Thursday’s matchup of the Chicago Bears versus the Green Bay Packers witnessed Jay Cutler suddenly devolve into a petulant, prepubescent girl who’d had her American Girl doll collection taken away from her. The arm flailing, the eye rolling, the sourpuss mug he kept on his face, the constant yelling at teammates – Cutler’s time on the field amounted to a sixty minute temper tantrum that his parents surely placed him in a corner for upon their return home.
I began the 2011 season by picking 14 out of 16 games correctly on my way to finishing the season in the top 87-percentile in ESPN’s Pig Skin Pick Em. This was simply picking the winners of the games without paying any mind to the points scored and who’s covering the spread. I figured if I was good at picking winners, I’d do half decently picking against the spread. Well, my Week 1 results were a complete dumpster fire and my foolish faith in Little Miss Cutler and the Bears has me in an early 0-1 hole for Week 2. Thru 17 games played thus far in the 2012 season, I’ve picked 5 correctly against the spread. Five out of seventeen may be a respectable MLB batting average, but in the world of NFL gambling, a record like that just may cost you your thumbs. Luckily, I’m smart enough not to put any money down on these games. The risk is just too big. Follow below for the rest of my Week 2 picks … Continue reading
Here’s Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin in the closing moments of his team’s 27-10 victory over the New York Jets.
Count NFL Hall of Famer John Madden in as a member of the Bob Griffin III Fan Club.
“And at some point, I have to admit that I said this, it just came out, I said ‘RG3′s the best player in the NFL today.’” Madden said on his on SiriusXM NFL Radio show with Adam Schein and Rich Gannon. “That’s what I really thought. Those words did come out. Now, I don’t know that I’m gonna live with that or back that up the rest of the season.”
“You know, the thing that he did that was so amazing was he reminded me — and I don’t mean to throw names around — but he reminded me of a Tim Tebow that can pass,”
“You know, Tim Tebow, when he was playing for Denver last year, he would tend to freeze the defenses, because they weren’t sure if it was run or pass, if he was gonna hand off or run. I mean, he couldn’t pass like RG3 — (Griffin) can throw the ball — but he has a tendency to freeze the defense.”
The end usually creeps up out of nowhere. Rarely do you ever get the chance to offset what has already been set in motion. This is one of the inevitabilities of NFL life. Greg Jennings may experiencing “the end”, one way or another. Lost in the daily fawning over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay juggernaut is the fact that Pro Bowl wide out Greg Jennings has been unable to finish three of the last four games he has played in dating back to Week 14 of the 2011 season. He exited that contest with a sprained MCL. He would return a few weeks later for the Packers NFC Divisional Round loss to the Giants, a game which he exited early with a rib injury. This past Sunday versus the 49ers, Jennings suffered a groin injury that may keep him out of tonight’s matchup with division rival Chicago Bears. All of this lost time has to be weighing on the minds of the Packers front office. Continue reading
Here are a few outtakes from John Clayton’s This Is Sportscenter spot. They should definitely have him shoot a few more of these.
